Guide: 6 of the coziest bookstores and libraries in Toronto

There’s nothing better than curling up with a warm cup of tea and your favourite book. Where can you find said favourite book, you ask? At one of these cute and cozy libraries and bookstores in Toronto, of course! Peruse the shelves or make yourself at home in one of the comfy couches. Don’t be shocked if you spot us napping in the corner.

Here are 6 of our favourite bookstores and libraries in Toronto.

HART HOUSE LIBRARY

When it comes to cozy places, this library has got it down pat. We recommend sitting in one of the cushioned bay windows and letting the sun shine on you all day while you browse a book. Plus, if you get hungry you can head right down the hall to Gallery Grill for a delicious bite to eat!

Where: University of Toronto St George, 1 Hart House Circle

BEN MCNALLY BOOKS

This spot calls itself Toronto’s Most Beautiful Bookstore, and we can’t say we disagree. Their wooden accents, miles-long shelves, and hanging string lights will make you feel like you’ve stepped right into a book-lover’s oasis. We want our apartment to look like this, honestly.

Where: 366 Bay St

QUEEN BOOKS

This local book shop is cute and quaint. The independent general interest bookstore located in the East End has all the reads you could dream of. Stop by for a minute or spend an afternoon cruising around their shelves.

Where: 914 Queen St E

CAVEN LIBRARY

If you’ve ever been to Knox College, you know that it feels just like stepping right into Hogwarts. Their library is no exception. Spend the day here surrounded by gorgeous architecture and the bright young minds of the University of Toronto. Does smartness work through osmosis?

Where: Knox College, University of Toronto, 59 St George St

ACADIA ARTS & RARE BOOKS

You know that old book smell? The one that just makes you feel like you’ve stumbled into a Victorian library and fallen blisfully face-first into the pages? Well, this place basically gives you that same feeling. They’ve got rare books galore as well as an impressive collection of art and prints. It’s perfect for that cozy-cluttered feel. Plus, you can pet their cat while you’re there!

Where: 232 Queen St E

TORONTO REFERENCE LIBRARY

Okay, okay, we know this one wouldn’t typically be described as cute or cozy. But we had to include it. If you want the most aesthetically pleasing library in the city to be your study spot this week, the reference library is the place to go. It’s conveniently located right at Yonge and Bloor, has a ton of floors and study spots to choose from, and honestly, just look at how pretty it is! Plus, within the library they even have a mini art gallery and a rare book collection.

Where: 789 Yonge St

So put on those spectacles, we’re doing some studying. Which of the cozy bookstores and libraries in Toronto will you choose?
