Crushing it: Grape-stomping events to check out in Ontario this fall

Kick off those shoes, friends! It’s almost time to unleash your wild side at these annual grape-stomping events in Ontario.

What is grape-stomping, you ask? Well, it’s exactly what it sounds like!

As part of the traditional wine-making process, it is custom to tread over barrels of grapes to help release the juices for fermentation.

So, whether you love wine or are looking for an excuse to get messy and have some fun, you’ll be sipping and stomping the day away at these events.

There are several grape-stomping events in Ontario this year, and we will be telling you about a couple of the more popular ones.

First, there is The Great Grape Stomp at Harbour Estates Winery.

This event is all fun and games, but it does get competitive. So, if you think you have what it takes to “crush” the competition, you can register with a team.

You will go head to head to compete for the coveted Purple Foot Trophy!

The proceeds will go to a great cause, a non-profit called Shelter Canada that’s building homes for people in need in El Salvador.

Another fun one is the Alton Farms Estate Winery Annual Grape Stomp, taking place in October.

This event will feature both competitive and kid stomps, with all proceeds going to the Bluewater Centre for Raptor Rehabilitation — raptors help keep the grape-eating bird populations in control, says the winery.

No tickets are needed — just stop on by for some delicious food, friendly competition, and of course, plenty of wine to sip on the lovely covered patio.

The Great Grape Stomp at Harbour Estates Winery takes place on September 30th and you can register to participate here.

The date for the Alton Farms Estate Winery Annual Grape Stomp has been set for October 10th at 12 PM and all the details can be found here.

Good luck, have fun, and happy stomping!
