Alberta’s Instafamous feline, Gary the cat, now has his own TikTok commercial

The meow, the myth, the legend. Since his first appearance on Instagram in 2018, Alberta-based-feline, Gary the Cat has taken TikTok, Instagram and Reddit by the furballs – but something tells us that 2022 will be one for the books.

This week, the short form-video platform behind Gen Z’s brightest stars, actually released a commercial celebrating the purr-sident of Rocky Mountain adventures – making one thing abundantly clear. It’s the year of the cat!

From peaks and valleys to lakes and rivers, Gary has been photographed along with his owner James Eastham on hikes, and ski trips leading to what Eastham describes as one of the most recognizable campaigns he’s been apart of so far.

“If you would have told me 5 years ago that – one, I’d even have a cat and two, he’d have his own commercial for a major social media platform I would’ve looked at you funny,” he told Curiocity.

Though he doesn’t actually appear in the commercial, Gary and his chilled-out temperament are the only things discussed in the 30-second clip advertising the platform and his account; and, while it may not be the first time he’s worked with a major brand, it was one of the most surprising.

Of course, with nearly 1 million followers across Instagram and TikTok and loads of the most wholesome content, it’s clear why Gary was the chosen one. People love him and his tiny goggles.

“It actually started as kind of a joke,” Eastham recalls, “but yeah, it’s been crazy.”

Of all the animals on social media, it’s hard to stand out, and as for Gary? To say that his four legs are firmly planted would be an understatement. We can’t wait to see what they do next!
