Woman, Life, Liberty: Feminist Cinema from Iran

We’re starting off this list with one of the easiest ways you can learn more about the fight for freedom in Iran and support the cause. The Polygon is screening feminist films from Iran every Thursday this month in solidarity with the women of Iran & those facing persecution. Below is a complete list of the films that will be shown, which you can read more about here.

- Appropriate Behavior (dir. Desiree Akhavan) – November 10th

DTES Heart of the City Festival

The 19th annual Heart of the City Fest just started, and the festival will run until November 6th, spotlighting the lived experiences and identities of the DTES community. This year’s theme of “Community Is Our Mentor” will include the launch of a new mural, a series of dialogues and short films on housing justice, and The Prop Master’s Dream, a new fusion opera produced by the Vancouver Cantonese Opera.

Pop-up Latin dance classes
This month, Vancouver Civic Theatres is hosting a series of $10 pop-up Latin dance classes at Queen Elizabeth Theatre Salons. If you’ve been looking to connect with other dance enthusiasts or learn some new steps, this is a great opportunity to do both.

Eastside Culture Crawl

With the unveiling of a huge 60-foot Christmas tree, the City of Surrey is officially back with their iconic Tree Lighting Festival this month. In addition to stunning light displays and installations, guests can peruse local artisan vendors, enjoy live choir and comedy shows, a ballet performance of The Nutcracker, and of course, photos with Santa. Oh, and did we mention the festival is free?
