NORTHWESTFEST

Canada’s longest running nonfiction film fest returns to in-person experiences this month! However, those looking to enjoy the options at home will be pleased to know that they’re keeping the virtual side as well. And of course, it doesn’t hurt that single screenings are under $10!

WHC SUMMER SERIES

Wild Heart Collective’s 124 Grand Market is set to make a return this month. The food and drink event (plus a little shopping and entertainment) will be running Thursday, Saturdays, and Sundays at locations around the city starting on May 12th.

ROYAL BISON ART AND CRAFT FAIR

Speaking of shopping options, make sure to check out the Royal Bison Fair as well! This twice-yearly event will see over 70 local vendors selling everything from books to ceramics to clothing. And of course, cheap entry just means more pocket change for you.

EDMONTON VALLEY ZOO

With the weather hopefully getting nicer, it could be time to head back to the zoo! Watching some animals lay around, play, and just vibe is weirdly therapeutic for us, and it’s fun for all ages. Plus, you’ve got until May 7th before summer pricing takes effect!

Edmonton’s local golf courses are finally opening for the season. And while finding an actual tee-time for cheap is relative, we can say that a trip to the driving range is as much as breakfast at McDonald’s! Borrow a pal’s clubs and go have some fun.

ART GALLERY OF ALBERTA

The AGA has got a serious amount of stuff to check out in May. If you’re curious, there will be as much as 10 temporary exhibitions and installations on view! General admission ain’t so bad, but head down on the final Thursday of every month for admission by donation night.

ELK ISLAND NATIONAL PARK

U OF A BOTANIC GARDEN

Just in time for Mother’s Day, this stunning and massive botanic garden is reopening for the season! Easily one of our favourite, and also one of the most relaxing, day trips around the city.

METRO CINEMA

As much as we love a state-of-the-art theatre, we might like this local option even more! Metro Cinema has always got a great selection of movies to check out, from cult comedies to art-house to things even we’ve never heard of!

THE GRINDSTONE THEATRE

If live entertainment is more your speed, this is our recommendation. Comedy shows, small plays, fun satires… the Grindstone has it all, and wants you to come see for yourself. Plus, it doesn’t hurt that this is one of the most reasonably priced options on our list.
