If all these Oktoberfest celebrations are giving you an appreciation for German culture, then you’ll want to pay the town of Frankenmuth a visit.
What’s this odd-sounding place, you ask? Well, believe it or not, it’s a real Bavarian village just over four hours from Toronto!
Located in Michigan, the town of Frankenmuth is known as the state’s “Little Bavaria.”
From traditional chicken dinners to whimsical buildings and Christmas year-round, this famous German town knows how to have fun.
In fact, their town’s official phone number is “1-800-FUN-TOWN” — yes, their website says so!
It even has a Bavarian-themed shopping mall, called Frankenmuth River Place, and the “world’s largest Christmas store” called Bronner’s Christmas Wonderland!
Between sipping beer, munching on German pretzels, and seeing the sights on the river cruise, you’ll be having the time of your life here.
As you may expect from “fun town,” festival season actually runs all year long in Frankenmuth.

“And, to be honest? We couldn’t throw a small party if we tried (so we don’t),” the town’s website says.
“We just raise the big striped tents (and fill them); roll the German pretzels (then devour them); tap the Hofbräuhaus kegs (and most definitely empty those, too).”
That includes the biggest and best Bavarian Fest you’ve ever experienced, the World Expo of Beer, Auto Fest, Zehnder’s Snowfest, an Olympics-style festival for dogs, and a hot air balloon festival.
When it comes to places to stay, you will hardly get a wink of sleep at these fun accommodations, including Zehnder’s Splash Village Hotel & Waterpark, the Bavarian Inn Lodge, and many charming BnBs.
We’d be remiss not to mention the Christmas experience in Frankenmuth, which has spectacular decorations, activities, an ice rink, and so much holiday cheer.
