Who’s ready for a summer concert on the water? A mobile concert series is setting sail next month, and it’s coming to Jericho Beach (Iy̓ál̓mexw, ʔəy̓alməxʷ) this July. Slated to perform at Festival Afloat 2022 is Juno-nominee Desirée Dawson, who guests can paddle out to listen to, or enjoy from the beach.
The benefit concert is in support of several causes, including the Heiltsuk Nation’s legal battle to protect the Great Bear Sea, and the Gitxaała Nation’s campaign to cancel mineral leases on Lax k’naga dzol (Banks Island).
Festival Afloat 2022 Salish Sea Tour will kick off in Vancouver on Thursday, July 7th, making its way to Gabriola Island on July 11th, Victoria on July 13th, and end at Galiano Island on July 16th. The concert series will make additional stops as well – with various local artists performing. So, get ready for some amazing performances!
Best of all? Thanks to the sustainable seafood cannery Scout, the festival will take place on the deck of the Providence. AKA – the oldest boat in B.C! If you’re keen on exploring a piece of our province’s history for yourself, you can also book 3-hour Indigenous-led tours aboard the Providence starting Tuesday, June 21st.
