Enchanted Okotoks is bringing a massive fantasy adventure to downtown Okotoks this September, turning the town into a real-life, playable game world. The interactive event uses augmented reality, live actors, quests, and fantasy-themed elements to put you right in the middle of the story as you explore the area. You can take on missions, meet characters, search for hidden treasures, and even team up with other players to battle fantasy creatures. In addition to the game, you will also find vendors, food, live entertainment, and other activities to discover along the way.
Enchanted Okotoks is an interactive adventure where you explore downtown Okotoks while taking part in an ongoing story through quests and puzzles. The event uses augmented reality, meaning you’ll use your phone to interact with digital parts of the adventure as you move around the real streets of Okotoks.
The adventure will begin at 11 a.m. at the Olde Towne Plaza, with an opening ceremony and performance from The Odyssey Theatre Group. At 11:30 a.m., the first stage of the story begins, and you’ll be introduced to characters and get set up for the adventure.
From there, you’ll head into downtown Okotoks to follow the game’s map, take on quests and discover different activities. At 2 p.m., everyone can return to the Olde Towne Plaza for the second stage of the story and another live performance before heading back out to explore until the 5 p.m. halfway ceremony.
On Sunday, the adventure will start up again at 11 a.m., with the third stage of the story beginning at 11:30 a.m. You’ll then have until 2 p.m. to explore and complete quests before the fourth and final story, and then the adventure will continue until the 5 p.m. closing ceremony, followed by the 5:30 p.m. wrap-up party.
Alongside the quests, you can browse the fantasy vendor market, check out live performances, see knightly combat from the Averni Legion and check out medieval armour and weapons with Dragon’s Own.
There will also be potion-making classes hosted by The Drifting Door, plus food and drinks available around the downtown area so you can stop for a break in between quests.
In order to participate, you’ll need to download the Enchanted Okotoks game on your smartphone to access the interactive parts of the event. Your phone will need a working camera, GPS, and an internet connection to use the AR features.
The game works on iOS 14 or newer and Android 9 or newer. Also, make sure your phone is charged before you arrive, since you’ll be using it throughout the adventure.
The game is designed for both experienced players and complete beginners. You’ll be guided through how the game works when you start, then you can explore the challenges at your own pace.
Costumes aren’t required, but Enchanted Okotoks encourages you to dress for the fantasy theme. Feel free to go all-out with a full costume or keep it simple with fantasy-inspired clothing and accessories. Just make sure any costume weapons are clearly fakes and properly secured.
Enchanted Okotoks is completely free to attend, so you can explore and take part in the main game without buying a ticket or registering ahead of time. You’ll only need to pay for things you choose to purchase separately, such as food, drinks, vendor items or certain activities.
The event will take place on Saturday, Sept. 12 and Sunday, Sept. 13, 2026, with the main event running from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both days. The adventure continues after the Sunday festivities with a wrap-up party at 5:30 p.m, giving players a chance to stick around and celebrate the end of the weekend.
If it rains, the festivities will continue, so be prepared with weather-appropriate clothing and footwear, especially since you’ll be walking between different locations around downtown. If severe weather makes it unsafe to continue, the event may be postponed or rescheduled.
Enchanted Okotoks takes place across several blocks of downtown Okotoks, rather than at one single venue, with Old Towne Place serving as the main gathering point for the opening, story stages and ceremonies.
Free parking is available around downtown Okotoks, but organizers warn it can fill up quickly. Arrive early or carpool, and a parking map will be provided on the Enchanted Okotoks event page.
