Elton John pays a beautiful tribute to Queen Elizabeth II during his Toronto concert

Sir Elton John rocked the house down on the final night of his tour stop in Toronto and took a moment to share a thoughtful tribute to Queen Elizabeth II following her passing on Wednesday.

The U.K artist performed in Toronto this week as part of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour where hundreds of thousands gathered to sing along to his hits and bid adieu to the British singer.

Though it was a bittersweet moment for Elton John as he retires from touring, the moment may have hit even harder as Buckingham Palace announced the passing of Queen Elizabeth II earlier that day.

In a post shared on Twitter, the “Rocket Man” singer shared his sentiments and shared that the Queen had been a huge part of his life since childhood.

During his concert, John also shared a tribute to the Queen and some kind words, honouring her historic life and decades-long reign.

“We have the saddest news about the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth. She was an inspiring presence to be around and I’ve been around her and she was fantastic,” said John in the video captured by a fan on Thursday.

“She led the country through some of our greatest and darkest moments with grace, decency, and genuine caring, warmth,

“I’m 75 and she’s been with me all my life and I feel very sad that she won’t be with me anymore, but I’m glad she’s at peace. I’m glad she’s at rest. And she deserves this – she’s worked bloody hard,” he continued.

“I send my love to the family, her loved ones. She will be missed, but her spirit lives on and we celebrate her life tonight with music.”

Back in 1988, John was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II and had performed for the Royal Family several times. His connection with the royals has been a long and emotional one as he also was part of Princess Diana’s funeral in 1997.
