Paris of the Prairies: this Canadian town has a replica Eiffel Tower you can visit without jet lag

If The City of Lights is on your travel bucket list, you’re certainly not alone but in this economy, travel might not be in the cards. Luckily, if you’re willing to settle for a few photos in front of the most iconic building in Paris, it’s worth noting that you don’t actually have to leave Canada to see the Eiffel Tower.

Up for a bit of a road trip? Those consumed by wanderlust can actually visit a replica of the iconic monument in a charming village called Montmartre, Saskatchewan, located 1 hour east of Regina.

Re-populated in 1890 by the French, the ‘Paris of The Prairies’ was modelled after a district of the same name in the capital city across the pond.

In addition to building familiar shops and houses, the village has also planted a garden in homage to the Parisian pillar and in 2009, unveiled the 30-foot replica of the Eiffel Tower.

Though it may be 1/38th of the size – people will hardly notice the difference if taken from the right angle so check it out and don’t forget to tag us in your staycation photos!

There’s really no place quite like it… ya know, other than the actual Eiffel Tower.

Enjoy and happy travelling!
