Well folks, we are officially into September now. How do you feel? Different? Yeah, us too. We’re going to try and get back in the summer mood with the things to do this weekend. With any luck, we can stretch out the summer vibes by at least 2 more weeks.

Here are 8 things to do in Edmonton this weekend.

The Wizard of Oz

Celebrate Metro Cinema’s 45th anniversary with the 80th anniversary of the Wizard of Oz. Two reasons to go. One, the movie has got a crazy backstory. Two, admission is by donation!

When: Friday, September 6
Where: Metro Cinema
Cost: By donation!

Edmonton Oil Kings vs. Calgary Hitmen

Get a head start on the season by checking out the Oil Kings. Who doesn’t love a quick trip to the good ol hockey game? The goalie jumps, and the players bump, and the fans all go insane. It’s all we could ask for.

When: Frida, September 6
Where: Downtown Community Arena
Cost: Free to attend!

WILDMasque

Sure, it could be a scene out of Eyes Wide Shut, but it’s supporting WILDNorth, Northern Alberta’s centre for rescue and compassionate care of injured and orphaned wildlife. We will take our chances.

When: Friday, September 6
Where: Old Timers’ Cabin
Cost: $120

The Brick Grand Opening in West Edmonton Mall

The Brick is opening a brand new store in West Edmonton Mall and they want you to be there! There will be a ribbon-cutting, some pretty cool contests, and obviously plenty of deals. On Saturday, September 7th Tessa Virtue will be there for a meet and greet in the afternoon as she is signed on as one of The Brick’s “sleep ambassadors”.

When: Friday, September 6 and Saturday, September 7
Where: West Edmonton Mall
Cost: Free

Strathearn Art Walk

With over 300 artists presented their works, this is a great opportunity to spruce up your condo or house before winter hits. Plus, there will be food available and a beer garden. Count us in.

When: Saturday, September 7
Where: Strathearn Drive
Cost: Free!

EBGA Real Ale Festival

There are two things we love in life: covering news and chugging brews. This time around, we get to focus on the latter passion.

When: Saturday, September 7
Where: Ritchie Community League, 7727 98 St NW
Cost: $30

Sonic Field Day

A weekend long event with some fantastic concerts lined up. Think Said the Whale, July Talk and Sam Roberts Band among others.

When: Saturday, September 7 – Sunday, September 8
Where: Hawrelak Park, 9330 Groat Rd NW
Cost: $71+

Mid-Autumn Lantern Festival

Sure, there will be lantern making, performances and some great local vendors. But really, we’re only going for the mooncakes.

When: Sunday, September 8
Where: Edmonton Downtown Farmers Market
Cost: Free Admission

And there you have it, Edmonton! All the things to do this weekend that we recommend. Catch us door crashing The Brick tomorrow, then saving our energy until Sunday for the last part of Sonic Field Day. Have fun!
