Happy Thursday, Edmonton! Although, we do have to say that we’re cruising into a weekend of not so nice weather right now. Hopefully, that changes, and the sky clears for a final few days of warmth. But, if not, we’ve got back up plans!

Here are 8 things to do in Edmonton this weekend.

HIT UP THE HARVEST MARKETS

We’re going to go ahead and say that fall isn’t official until there are Harvest Markets. Catch one of the first to go down this weekend, and stock up on all those hearty products that make the season that much more bearable. Root vegetables and preserves, here we come!

When: Saturday, September 12
Where: 9534 87 Street NW
Cost: Free to attend!

WATCH A MOVIE

There are a few movies to watch this weekend, but our top pick is Harold and Maude at Metro Cinema. A 70s cult classic, the movie is a mix of dark humour and existential undertones. It’s not super appropriate for date night, but worth watching on the silver screen all the same.

When: Sunday, September 13
Where: 8712 109 St NW
Cost: $13

ENJOY SOME DINNER THEATRE

Dinner theatre returns to Edmonton this month! The Mayfield Dinner Theatre is putting on an adaptation of “Playing With Fire: The Theo Fleury Story”. What’s more, this show is apparently going to be entirely on ice, which is a fun visual bonus.

When: Showtimes starting September 8
Where: 16615 109 Avenue NW
Cost: $77 and up (meal included)

CHECK OUT KALEIDO FEST

This annual celebration is going to look a little different this time around. The performers will be driving around the Alberta Avenue District on flatbed trucks. Then, they’ll stop at various parks and public areas to put on their shows! Sounds crazy, but definitely a unique way to do things.

When: Starts Friday, September 11
Where: Alberta Avenue District
Cost: Free to attend!

EXPERIENCE CULTURE DAYS

The Alberta Culture Days are going on all month long. With a focus on virtual programs and events, this celebration offers a ticket into some of the province’s lesser-known activities and experiences. Think drum workshops and artist talks.

When: Events ongoing
Where: Virtual and in-person events
Cost: Free!

LISTEN TO A DRIVE-IN CONCERT

Country music star (and Alberta born) Corb Lund is doing back to back drive-in concerts on Saturday. Usually, we wouldn’t recommend a concert in bad weather, but we think it could be a pretty cool sight to see. Plus, drive-in concerts would make for a fun, weird memory of this year.

When: Saturday, September 12
Where: 11834 Kingsway NW
Cost: $50 per vehicle (2 occupants)

DRINK A FEW BEERS

Edmonton Tourism has released a new ‘Brewery Pass’, which offers discounts at tons of local breweries. All you need to do is get a free mobile app and you’ll have access to the deals! Visit them all, and you’ll also get a free t-shirt for your devotion.

When: Whenever
Where: Breweries around Edmonton

WALK THE U OF A GARDEN BEFORE SUMMER ENDS

Head down and enjoy 25,000 different kinds of plants spread out over 240 acres. This might be one of the most fun places to play ‘I Spy’ in the city. Plus, you could check things out later in the month and enjoy all the leaves changing colour.

When: Open daily, reserve your visit online beforehand
Where: Parkland County, Alberta
Cost: $18.75

And those are our picks for this weekend in Edmonton! We’re hoping that you make the most of it, folks!
