Hello, Edmonton! We hope your weekend has treated you well so far. If not, then maybe we can help you out for the week ahead. We’ve got sports, concerts and a little art lined up. Take your pick!

Here are 8 things to do in Edmonton this weekend.

Check out the art gallery

The exhibition ‘I Am From Here’ explores the history of black pioneers in Alberta, tracing their impact from over a century ago until today. It’s a powerful, informative exhibition, and one that we recommend checking out.

When: On until September 7, 2020
Where: Royal Alberta Museum
Tickets: Admission is $19

Hear a doozy of a story

Shoutout to the Edmonton Public Library for this one. Anthony Ray Hinton is a black man from Alabama who was wrongfully prosecuted for a crime he didn’t commit, spending 28 years on death row. The story is absolute madness, so if you don’t have the opportunity to see him, then consider checking out his book.

When: Wednesday, June 12
Where: Chateau Lacombe Hotel
Tickets: Get on the waiting list for $10 here

Have a laugh or two

Edmonton’s signature improv fest Improvaganza starts this week. For ten days, you’ll be able to see some of Canada and beyond’s best improv acts. Come on, you know you want to lighten up a bit.

When: Starts Wednesday, June 12
Where: Rapid Theatre
Tickets: Range based on show, check out the schedule here

Watch a little football

Edmonton FC is playing against York on Wednesday. Feeling like you didn’t watch enough Champions League? Here’s your chance to cheer on the home team.

When: Wednesday, June 12
Where: Clarke Stadium
Tickets: $26.35, get them here

Find a Sweet City Woman

Alberta royalty The Stampeders are playing in St. Albert on Thursday. Known for their platinum single ‘Sweet City Woman’, the band is more soft rock than pure country, and we love it.

When: Thursday, June 13
Where: Arden Theatre, St. Albert
Tickets: $70, get them here

Enjoy some dinner theatre

Handsome Woman is the drag queen dinner theatre you didn’t know you wanted to see. Hosted at Yellowhead Brewery, the night features a one-woman show, a buffet, and cabaret performances.

When: Thursday, June 13
Where: Yellowhead Brewery
Tickets: $40, get them here

Watch some more football

The season opener for the Edmonton Eskimos goes down on Friday against the Montreal Alouettes. See what we did there? Football vs. football? Nice, we’re pretty funny, hey?

When: Friday, June 14
Where: Commonwealth Stadium
Tickets: $40.25, get them here

Listen to some fancy music

So, you’ve got a date lined up for Friday and still haven’t figured out what to do. Our suggestion? Make a reservation at a nice Italian restaurant then head to the Winspear Centre to listen to some classical Russian music. Never heard of Tchaikovsky? That’s ok, you’ve got a week to prepare.

When: Friday, June 14
Where: Winspear Centre
Tickets:  $54, get them here

Alrighty, folks! That is our list of things to do in Edmonton this week. We like the idea of watching a little football (but which one!?), and we’re for sure going to try and listen to Mr. Hinton speak. How about you?
