Love is in the air, folks! With Valentine’s Day capping off our list of things to do this week in Edmonton, we’re thinking about all the fun stuff you could get up to before then. Check out a concert, learn about women in science, or just hang out!

Here are 8 things to do this week in Edmonton.

Bedouin Soundclash

We’re happy that Bedouin Soundclash abides by the rule of ‘if you’re not going to do it right, don’t do it at all’. So, it makes sense that it took close to a decade for them to release their most recent album Mass. It also makes sense that the album is contemporary without forgetting the band’s roots.

When: Tuesday, February 11
Where: The Starlite Room, 10030 102 Street NW
Cost: $20

International Day of Women and Girls in Science

Did you know that such a day existed? We sure didn’t, so we’re more motivated than ever to check out Science World and learn about 6 female scientists who have made invaluable contributions to their fields. Like Jane Goodall!

When: Tuesday, February 11
Where: Telus World of Science, 11211 142 Street NW
Cost: Free with admission, $23.95

The Beaches

The all-female band hailing out of Toronto has got a vibrant, in your face sound. Fortunately for us, it’s neatly packaged, with some electronic touches in there for good measure. Maybe that’s why they won Breakout Artist of the Year at the 2018 JUNO Awards.

When: Thursday, February 13
Where: Union Hall, 6240 99 Street NW
Cost: $24.50

Collective Hearts Dinner

The great local brewery Collective Arts is pairing with German restaurant Cartago for a special Valentine’s Day dinner. With your ticket, you’ll get a great 3-course meal with special beer pairings to match. Perfect for being fancy without going over the top.

When: Friday, February 14
Where: Cartago, 8204 106 Avenue Northwest
Cost: $60 (a screaming deal)

The Great Gatsby St. Valentine’s Murder

Want to spice up Valentine’s? This is the way to do it. Head down to the Sawmill Restaurant for an evening full of cocktails, great food, and of course, a very interesting murder mystery. Plus, you get to nod to the roarin’ twenties!

When: Friday, February 14
Where: Sawmill Restaurant, 4810 Calgary Trail South
Cost: $99

Winter in Hokkaido

This option is probably our top pick for food events this month. Hosted by Shojo Izakaya, this dinner features a whopping 10 courses, which will most definitely take you on a culinary journey through Japanese bar fare.

When: Friday, February 14
Where: Shojo Izakaya, 10425 121 Street Northwest
Cost: $80

Winefest Edmonton

Edmonton’s premier wine festival had over 50 wineries last year, and this year we’re confident that it’s going to be just as big. Go learn about biodynamic wine or something fun like that. Heck, maybe pick up a bottle for after dinner?

When: Friday, February 14
Where: Edmonton Convention Centre, 9797 Jasper Ave
Cost: $87-$92

Silver Skate Festival

This massive winter festival will be taking over Hawrelak Park for ten days straight. Friday is the kick-off, and the main draw will be the fire sculpture installations. Basically, people build stuff, then they set it on fire for artistic effect. We’re down.

When: On throughout the week
Where: Hawrelak Park, 9330 Groat Road NW
Cost: Free to attend!

And there you have it folks, our guide to the best things to do in Edmonton this week. We hope you make the most of it! But hey, even if you don’t, there’s always next week.
