We hope that you’ve had a great week, folks! What’s more, we hope you’re ready for an absolute cooker of a weekend in the city. If you aren’t, then we’ve got a few ideas for how to make the most of it. From entertainment at home to options around the city, we’ve got you covered.

Here are 8 things to do this weekend in Edmonton.

TAKE A QUICK CAMPING TRIP

Let’s face facts- we’re running out of great camping weekends. Make the most of the summer by getting out of the city for a couple of days this weekend, and use this guide to point you in the right direction.

When: Whenever
Where: Sites around Edmonton

ENJOY A METEOR SHOWER

The Perseids are going to be out in full force for the next little while. Even if you don’t go camping, it’s worth staying up late/getting up early to catch them soaring through the sky. If you’re lucky, you can see anywhere from 50 to 100 an hour.

When: Late at night or early morning

TOUR A POWER PLANT

The historic Rossdale Power Plant has opened its doors for tours this summer. We don’t know about you, but we’re weirdly drawn to large scale industrial buildings. Especially when they’re now defunct. This might just be our top pick this weekend.

When: Tours every Saturday and Sunday
Where: 10155 96 Ave NW
Cost: $26.25

WATCH SLAP SHOT

The Oilers didn’t have the best luck in the playoffs this year. It’s a bummer, especially because we’re hosting the actual finals. While we wait for next season, we’re going to take our minds off the NHL with a screening of Slap Shot at the Metro Cinema.

When: Sunday, August 16
Where: 8712 109 Street
Cost: $13

APPLY FOR 15 MINUTES OF FAME

Big Brother Canada has opened up the application process for Season 9. So, if you’re ready to subject yourself to an Orwellian reality for a few weeks, the chance has come around once more. Who knows, it could be a pretty fun time.

When: Applications now open
Where: Online

EAT YOUR WAY THROUGH ALBERTA

We hope you’re hungry, Calgary! Celebrate the comforting small-town restos and the big city chef-driven menus of the prairies with Alberta on The Plate –  a multi-course fixed price culinary festival showcasing the best in provincial eats. Gas up your car, crank that road trip playlist, and leave the road snacks at home. We’re eating like royalty!

GET LOST IN A CORN MAZE

The Edmonton Corn Maze has reopened for the summer! If you were looking for a great way to spend an afternoon, then look no further. Pretend you’re Theseus walking around the Labyrinth, and get another friend to be the Minotaur.
