Happy Thursday, folks! We’ll be straight up with you- we’re going into this weekend very curious about the current restrictions across the province. Those are set to expire on Monday, so we’re keeping our eyes peeled for any new info. In the meanwhile, we’ve got some great options for stuff you can do!

Here are 8 things to do this weekend in Edmonton.

EAT A HEALTHY MEAL

Why not kick off 2021 on a somewhat healthy foot? Treat yourself to a delicious meal from some of Edmonton’s most-loved restaurants. Some are healthier than others, but all of them beat pre-packaged ramen and KD, as good as those options are.

GO ON A SEGWAY TOUR

Looking for a unique way to explore the River Valley? Check it out with a 60-minute long tour courtesy of the River Valley Adventure Co. We’ve never tried it out before, but for some reason, it’s calling out to us this weekend.

When: Tours daily
Cost: $59.99 and up

GET A LIBRARY CARD

You know what they say- having fun isn’t hard when you’ve got a library card! Cozy up on the couch and treat yourself to a world of adventure. Plus, books have this weird effect where you feel productive afterwards, in a way that Netflix just can’t compare. Maybe that’s just us, though.

Cost: Free!

CHECK OUT A MUSEUM

Restoring a bunch of neon signs and installing them downtown was a pretty cool move, in our opinion. Plus, they’d pair very well with a frosty evening stroll, so grab a coffee nearby and make the most of it! Very easy thing to do, and a great excuse to get out of the house.

When: Throughout January
Where: Mercer Warehouse, South Wall
Cost: Free

GO NIGHT SKIING

A fair number of Edmonton’s ski hills have twilight/weekly deals for lift tickets. If you’ve got the gear, then you can get a few laps in for as little as $12 every Friday at Snow Valley ski hill. Not a bad deal at all, especially for those craving the snow!

When: Throughout January
Where: Locations around Edmonton
Cost: $12 and up

STREAM A LIVE SHOW

The first live show to return to Edmonton was an adaptation of the book A Brimful of Asha, which recounts a mother’s attempt to find her son a suitable wife while on ‘vacation’ in India. While that’s no longer an option, you can still stream a performance from the comfort of your own home!

When: On until January 10th
Where: Online
Cost: $21 plus fees

DO SOME STARGAZING

One great part about the dead of winter? Amazing sunsets and wide-open skies. Make the most of it with a trip to Elk Island National Park- do a little skating in the afternoon, then head back to your car for some hot cocoa and a quick peek at the stars above.

When: Throughout January
Where: 54401 Range Road 203, Fort Saskatchewan
Cost: $7.90 for admissions

GO FOR A LOVELY WINTER SKATE

The Victoria Park Skating Oval and IceWay are officially open for the winter! Head down whenever (it’s open from 10 AM-10 PM) and enjoy one of Canada’s most quintessential winter activities. Plus, the IceWay lights up at night!

When: Open daily
Where: 12030 River Valley Rd NW
Cost: Free!

And that’s our roundup of the best things to do in Edmonton this weekend! Have fun out there and enjoy the winter weather, folks!
