Happy Thursday, Edmonton! The weather has warmed up a little, the sun is peeking around, and we’re ready to enjoy the first long weekend of spring. If you’re in the same boat as us, then we’ve got some great options for you over the next few days.

Here are 10 things to do this long weekend in Edmonton.

TRY A NEW BREAKFAST SPOT

Originally from Quebec, Pür & Simple has chosen Edmonton to open up its first Alberta location! The restaurant seems to be a hit all over Canada, so we’re curious to see just how great it is. After all, you can never test out too many waffles and eggs benedicts.

When: Opens Friday, April 2nd
Where: 1 Kingsway Garden Mall

CHECK OUT A CONTEMPORARY ART FESTIVAL

The Chinook Series is a local art festival highlighting a variety of different forms. The Edmonton Fringe Fest has joined forces with Expanse Festival and Sound Off, and offers everything from contemporary dance to plays performed using American Sign Language.

When: On until April 4th

HIT UP THE FARMERS’ MARKETS

We love takeout and delivery as much as the next person. But, sometimes, it’s nice to just grab some fresh fruits and veggies, or some local baking, or a nice frozen meal. And, there’s no better place to do that than at Edmonton’s farmers’ markets!

When: Open throughout April
Where: Various locations

STREAM A MOVIE

While we’d classify the majority of them as ‘films’ (lifts pinky) instead of movies, the Metro Cinema has some great options that give you more to talk about than ‘Green guy go smash’. But hey, who are we to judge the psychological transformation of Dr. Banner?

When: Streaming throughout April
Where: Online
Cost: Varies

TAKE YOUR PUP TO THE PARK

Speaking of outdoor fun, we’re sure your dog (or your friend’s dog) is just as excited about the spring as you are. Treat them to a little tour of some of the best dog parks in Edmonton. We’ve rounded up a few of our favourites to help you get started, too.

WATCH THE BATTLE OF ALBERTA

How many battles has it been now, anyway? We don’t know, and we don’t care. All we’re thinking about is how much fun the all-Canadian division has been for the fans this season. Plus, the Oilers have been more than holding their own, and we’d like to see more of that.

When: Friday, April 2nd

HEAD TO THE ZOO

That’s right folks, the Edmonton Public Zoo has officially reopened! While the indoor exhibits are closed for the foreseeable future, you’ll still be able to enjoy all the outdoor ones. Watching red pandas zoom around? Yes please!

When: Now open
Where: 13315 Buena Vista Road
Cost: $10.95 (reduced price)

DO SOME STARGAZING

One great part about the spring? Amazing sunsets and wide-open skies. Make the most of it with a trip to Elk Island National Park- try a trail in the afternoon, then head back to your car for some hot cocoa and a quick peek at the stars above after sunset.

When: Open throughout the week
Where: 54401 Range Road 203, Fort Saskatchewan
Cost: $7.90 for admissions

ENJOY A DOME DINING EXPERIENCE

The latest dome dining experience in Edmonton switches up the chefs each week for extra excitement. If you still haven’t tried dome dining, we think spring might just be the best time to do it. It’s a little cold, but not enough that you’ll be freezing walking from your car to the table.

When: Weekends until April 11th
Where: Victoria Golf Course, 12130 River Valley Rd NW
Cost: $125 per person

BE IMPRESSED BY SOME NEW PUBLIC ART

Some absolutely massive inflatable sculptures have arrived in downtown Edmonton. Reaching up to 12 metres high, these gentle giants are a nod to a 1973 animated movie called Fantastic Planet. Check them out as they playfully explore and lounge around.

When: On until April 12th
Where: Locations around downtown Edmonton

That’s our list for you this long weekend, Edmonton! We hope that you can have some good old-fashioned springtime fun!
