Edmonton is getting a new baseball team for 2021!
Good news for the sports fans out there! Starting next summer, Edmonton is getting a brand new baseball team, and they’re going to be called the Edmonton Riverhawks. The new team is part of the West Coast League, which has teams throughout western Canada and the US.
Turns out baseball has a lot of leagues, so here’s our best kick at the explanation can. The West Coast League is a collegiate summer league, which means the players need to have been in college for at least one year and have at least one year left. It’s like a development league before trying to go pro.
2021 is a whole new ballgame – the Edmonton Riverhawks begin to play ball at RE/MAX Field as part of the West Coast League. Congrats to Baseball Edmonton for securing the franchise bringing the team to town! #EdmontonRiverhawks, #yeg, #baseball pic.twitter.com/yVhDlvFHdN

Which is why the season only lasts from June until the middle of August. That works for us anyway, since we don’t really want to watch baseball in 5-degree weather. Bring out summer sun, some beers, and a good old baseball game! It’ll be a great way to spend an afternoon.
Weirdly, the new team won’t be in the same league as the Edmonton Prospects but might be sharing the field. If you’d like to learn more about the Edmonton Riverhawks, you can check out the official website right here. See you folks down at the diamond!
