2020 has been a long one, hasn’t it? It may feel like we’ve lived a lifetime in the past year alone, but that means there are a ton of good things that happened too! One of our favourite moments of the year was during Alberta’s initial lockdown-esque phase, when the penguins at West Edmonton Mall got a chance to explore.

Back at the end of May 2020, these tuxedoed cuties got the chance of a lifetime to explore the gigantic empty mall completely on their own terms. And while none of the stores were open for the penguins to make purchases, we bet they still had a grand old time.

But you can judge that for yourself by watching the video above. And regardless, it had to have been interesting for these birds to get a chance to explore outside their habitat. Because after all if there’s anything we’ve learned during quarantine it’s that being cooped up in the house gets old.

And if you didn’t love these cute flightless creatures already, you’ll love knowing that this endangered species is getting a chance to live on in Edmonton. But anyway, we hope this put a little smile on your face to wrap up 2020 with! If you’d like to learn more about the penguins and other animals at West Edmonton Mall, click here.
