Edmonton artist who painted famous RBG portrait will portray it in YEG
We’re sure you’re well aware that Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg passed away earlier this week, at the age of 87. Ginsburg had been on the Supreme Court since 1993 and was noted for her work in gender equality and women’s rights.
But, we’re sure Time will deliver a much better eulogy than us. What we will let you know about though, is that an Edmonton artist is behind her iconic portrait featured on the cover of Time earlier this year. Shana Wilson actually painted both covers- one of Ginsburg and one of Jackie Kennedy.
And, that Ginsburg portrait is actually in Edmonton! Since Wilson is represented by the Peter Roberston Gallery, the art will be included in a group show that kicks off this Saturday. A few other works from Wilson will be on view as well, so you can get a feel of this super-talented artist.
You can also check out paintings by Tim Okamura, who was also commissioned for TIME’s ‘100 Women of the Year’ project.
Plus, it’s a great excuse to get your less-than-artistic friends to come with you. Random group show of Edmonton artists? That’s a hard sell. Checking out a famous portrait of an internationally renowned woman? Where’s the link!
