Ahh, the Space Needle, one of Seattle’s most iconic buildings. That also happens to have a lot of weird facts about it. For example, did you know that the Space Needle collapsed in 1989? Well, if not be sure to keep reading to find out this surprisingly funny piece of Seattle history.

On April 1st, 1989 Seattle’s local sketch comedy show ‘Almost Live!” had a breaking news segment. And in this segment, it was revealed that the Space Needle had tragically collapsed. Of course, this news was backed up with some very 80s graphics of the destroyed Space Needle. And eyewitnesses of the crazy event.

If you weren’t reading carefully you might not have noticed the date was April 1st, aka April Fools.
