Time to fall back: Daylight saving ends in Washington this week

Now that late fall is just around the corner, the days are getting shorter, and colder. Love it or hate it, daylight saving time ends on the first Sunday in November, according to the Old Farmer’s Almanac. And this year, Washingtonians will ‘fall back’ on Sunday, November 5th at 2 AM.

As we do annually, it is recommended to set your clocks back by one hour on Saturday night, which means sunrise will occur one hour earlier starting November 5th. Luckily, with many people owning smartphones, you may not actually need to change any settings.

In Washington, this means that sunset will now take place around 4:55 p.m., based on the current sunset time.

Now as you may remember, Washington passed House Bill 1196 in 2019 allowing “for the year-round observation of daylight saving time.” This change has been considered in several other states and is not observed in both Arizona and Hawaii.

Washington still observes the annual time change because the bill is still waiting to be passed at a federal level by Congress.

So for now, Washingtonians still need to set their clocks back.
