It’s Oct. 1, which means in a little under 31 days, hordes of children will be knocking on your door in search of treats this Halloween.
That really makes it sound like something from a zombie horror flick, but we swear, it’s a lot more wholesome than that, especially in Calgary.
Canada’s favourite October seasonal pastime is still going strong in 2025. Calgary kids in particular love to partake in trick-or-treating on Halloween night, with some houses posting numbers in the triple digits in the past decade.
CensusMapper has been tracking the trick-or-treat onslaught since 2016, and its current map takes the matter quite seriously, with data pulled from the 2016 Canadian census.
Another map breaks down neighbourhoods by density, offering an inside look into trick-or-treat trends in Calgary.

During the last two Halloweens, around 150,000 Canadians used CensusMapper to plan how much candy to purchase for each household.
In Calgary, suburban communities in the north and south tend to be more popular trick-or-treating destinations, with inner city and downtown communities seeing less foot traffic.
That might be because trick-or-treating is safer in residential neighbourhoods, but it could also be the demographic makeup of these households. Calgarians with families tend to move towards suburban neighbourhoods on the outskirts of the city, and are more reluctant to travel to the inner core to partake in Halloween.
Trick-or-treating is popular in communities surrounding Calgary, with Airdrie, Okotoks, and Chestermere boasting more than 60 per cent of trick-or-treat-aged children per doorbell.
Children aged 3-14 are considered to be of trick-or-treating age. Within Calgary’s city limits, trick-or-treating is especially popular in southeast and northeast communities.
In Calgary South, the following communities had more than 80 per cent of trick-or-treat-aged children per doorbell.
These communities had more than 60 per cent of trick-or-treat-aged children per doorbell.
The southwest community of Discovery Ridge had the most trick-or-treat-aged children per doorbell at a whopping 96 per cent.
In Calgary North, the following communities had more than 80 per cent of trick-or-treat-aged children per doorbell.
These communities had more than 60 per cent of trick-or-treat-aged children per doorbell.
One neighbourhood in the northeast community of Saddle Ridge had the most trick-or-treat-aged children per doorbell at a massive 99 per cent.
If you’re looking for the best neighbourhoods to score Halloween candy, you’ll want to check out this map that analyzes trick-or-treat density by neighbourhood.
The best places to be, according to the map, are Saddle Ridge, Taradale, Evergreen, and Bridlewood. These communities are most likely to see the most trick-or-treater foot traffic.
You can head there this Oct. 31 and rest easy knowing there will be plenty of candy, crowds and kids in costume to thrill you and your loved ones.
