The first indoor triathlon training centre in North America is opening in Edmonton

A new modern facility will be opening in North Edmonton this January.

The Coronation Park Sports and Recreation Centre is slated to open this month, with the all-new facility offering many amenities, including the Peter Hemingway Aquatic Centre. From fitness facilities to indoor playgrounds, this new centre will be the go-to place for the Edmonton community. With a pool, running and cycling track, Coronation is the first indoor triathlon training centre in North America.

Opening Jan. 27, here’s what you can expect from this all-new recreation centre in North Edmonton.

All the amenities

First things first: the Peter Hemingway Aquatic Centre.

This all-new aquatics centre features an eight-lane pool, a hot tub, a sauna, a steam room, a cold plunge pool, universal as well as gendered change rooms, and spectator seating with up to almost 300 seats. It’s going to be an excellent pool for both play and sport, and we couldn’t be more excited.

Speaking of sports, the recreation centre itself will have two full-sized courts, a gorgeous bouldering wall, and a velodrome. For those who aren’t familiar, a velodrome is a premier indoor cycling track.

In addition to these, we have a fitness centre, a functional training area, a mind and body studio, and a mobility studio. There’s also a 333-metre running and walking track, a track cycling, a spin studio, and a group fitness and dance studio.

The recreation centre will be offering registered and drop-in programs as well. This includes swimming lessons and aquatic certifications, fitness programs, personal training, nutrition services, adapted programs, day camps, an indoor playground, and child minding by the YMCA. There’s something offered for everyone.

If you’re grabbing something to eat or drink, this facility has got you covered there, too. A Second Cup will be opening within the centre, although no information has been given on when.

As for opening hours, they begin from 5:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. on Mondays through Fridays, 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturdays, and 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Sundays. The aquatic centre itself closes at 10 p.m. on weekdays and 9 p.m. on weekends. All statutory holidays will have 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. hours.

Whether you’re training or just having a good time playing, this sports and rec centre will be the perfect spot. Mark your calendar for Jan. 27, and get ready to visit this all-new facility.
