This Ontario beach town was recognized as one of Canada’s best places to live

Looking for a new place to visit or, perhaps, call home? The town of Cobourg is where nature’s beauty meets country charm.

Located in Northumberland County just off of Highway 401, this gem of a town is home to a population of 20,000.

It sits on the east coast of Lake Ontario and is home to a pristine white sand beach.

This beach was once a well-kept secret by locals but has since become more popular because of how special it is.

With soft white sand, a bustling boardwalk, retro lifeguard stands, and calm blue waters, it checks all the right boxes.

The beach is so special that it was once named one of the top beaches worth visiting near Toronto by VRBO.

This town has also received recognition for being one of Canada’s best places to live.

According to the town’s website, Cobourg has been named multiple times by MoneySense Magazine for being one of the top places to live in the whole country, among places with populations under 25,000.

That may be because it has a little bit of everything you would want around you, from incredible outdoor attractions to great restaurants and shops.

“Founded in 1798, we are rich in heritage offering a vibrant downtown, sophisticated small town atmosphere, and renowned waterfront that serves as a popular getaway destination,” the town’s website says.

Just a short distance from downtown is the Otonabee River, which offers breathtaking vistas and scenic picnic spots, says Cobourg Tourism.

Other easily accessible destinations are Ostrander Creek, Silver Creek, and West River, all of which offer walks with excellent views, according to Cobourg Tourism.

As for restaurants, you’ll find everything from casual to fine dining in this town, complete with sunset and lakefront views.

The best part? It’s just a 90-minute drive from Toronto.
