There’s a free skateboarding competition taking over Edmonton this weekend

Clareview Skateboard Skillsfest is taking over the skatepark for the third year in a row, bringing heated competition to Edmonton this upcoming weekend.

Whether you’re eight years old or bordering on 100, this skateboard competition is open to all. The Clareview Skateboard Skillsfest has been in Edmonton for three years now, allowing people across Edmonton to showcase their riding skills during the summer. If you have a trick to show off on your board, there’s no better opportunity than this community event.

With the competition coming up this Saturday, we’ve laid out all the details you’ll need to know ahead of time. Let’s drop into things, shall we?

What to expect at the Clareview Skateboard Skillsfest

This whole competition will take place at Clareview Rec Centre Skatepark from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m on Aug. 8. For this upcoming afternoon, skateboarding will be the full focus.

If you are registered to compete, you’ll be able to arrive early on Aug. 8, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., to get help with free skateboard maintenance. Keep in mind, if you are competing or planning to skate at any point, it’s recommended you bring your own helmet and board. While there is equipment available to borrow, it is limited.

The competition officially kicks off at 2 p.m. Each participant will get two 45-second runs with not only prizes for the riders, but giveaways for spectators. With a variety of different categories, there’s ample chance for everyone to shine. This year, they’re featuring a new prize category: Best Trick.

For those looking to try their hand at the competition, registration closed on Aug. 1, but walk-ups are allowed, space permitting.

If the competition is full, you’ll still be able to cheer on the amazing people taking on the competition. Or, if you still want to hop on a board, there will be a free beginner workshop available for any skater interested.

Keep in mind, in the event of extreme weather, this event will be cancelled. Considering the storms Edmonton has been seeing lately, we’d recommend checking the forecast before making it out to the skatepark this weekend.

Pack your board, grab some friends, and get ready for a skateboard extravaganza like no other.
