City of Surrey is hosting its massive Earth Day celebration & here’s what to expect

If you belong to the school of thought that every day is Earth Day, we are right there with you. That said, we do love the opportunity to come together with fellow pro-Earthers and celebrate our planet. That is exactly what we are doing for Earth Day 2023, only a week later. Because the City of Surrey is hosting its 12th annual Party for the Planet, presented by TD Bank Group. And it’s free!

Party for the Planet is BC’s largest Earth Day celebration. It is also the City’s way of raising awareness about and promoting sustainable living. And they do it in the funnest way possible. Come Saturday, April 29th, 2023, the Surrey Civic Plaza will turn into one giant party with live music, a sustainable marketplace, food trucks and tons more.

“Party for the Planet is the first of the City of Surrey’s annual free family celebrations,” said Mayor Brenda Locke. “Featuring local artists and artisans, this event has something for everyone. I invite all to join us on Earth Day to discover new ways to be kinder to our environment and live more sustainably.”

Here’s everything you can enjoy at this Earth Day 2023 party—

Music, Dance & More

The party features three stages, each for a different form of entertainment. Talented local artists will take over the Earth Stage and fill up the plaza with live music. Epic dance battles will go down on the Community Stage. And a variety of children’s entertainment will be showcased on the Family Stage.

Indigenous and Environmental Learning

The most crucial part of Party for the Planet is the learning that it brings along. You can learn about sustainable living from the many environmental workshops. And you can also learn more about Indigenous culture and practices.

Food Trucks

This is easily our favourite part of the celebration—the food! Food trucks will be serving up an array of plant-based delights. These will line up along University Drive.

Sports Zone

There will be a dedicated sports zone for adventurous spirits. While we are still waiting to get more deets on the zone, we know for sure there is a rock-climbing wall.

Market & Nursery

The celebration comes with shopping opportunities as well. There will be a sustainable marketplace featuring local businesses selling eco-friendly products. Jewelry, bags, gifts, honey and more will be up for grabs at the market. Then there is also the plant sale hosted by Surrey Parks. You can snag native plants for $3 – $6.

Clothing Swap

Another interesting aspect of this amazing Earth Day celebration is the annual clothing swap to reduce the amount of clothing ending up in our landfills. This is where you can pick up light-used clothes for no cost.
