You can soon walk among millions of colourful tulips at this BC festival (PHOTOS)

Great news, flower lovers! The beloved Chilliwack Tulip Festival returns next week with over seven million stunning tulips in bloom. If you’re looking to take in the spring colours and maybe get in a few family photos for the season, this is the perfect opportunity to do both.

Alongside the upcoming Abbotsford festival is the 17th annual Chilliwack Tulip Festival, BC’s premier flower farm experience.

Since 2006, visitors have been able to peruse a sea of vibrant spring colours across 20+ acres of “flower-scape.” This year, guests can expect to see 30 different tulip varieties blooming, in addition to 16 daffodil varieties and five types of hyacinths.

“My family and I look forward to welcoming visitors to explore the colourful fields,” says festival founder Kate Onos-Gilbert. “Opening the festival each year truly feels like a celebration of spring.”

What’s more, Onos Greenhouses collects all the bulbs after the festival and uses them in their greenhouse operation, which supplies 85% of the cut tulips that are sold throughout Western Canada. So even if you can’t make it out to Chilliwack, chances are you’ll still be putting some local bulbs in your vase at home!

As well, the festival will have everything from photo ops (seven sets of swings, a convertible from the 50s, and a 1965 Airstream, for starters…) to lawn games to enjoy. And when you get hungry, there are refreshments and food truck eats to indulge in.

Before you leave, make sure to check out the on-site Flower Shop. In addition to fresh tulips available for purchase, you’ll also be able to buy some souvenirs and seeds for tulips of your own!

If that sounds like a lovely day trip idea to you, then get to planning, Vancouver!
