Who’s ready to party with the Irish? Western Canada’s largest Celtic festival, CelticFest, is taking place in Vancouver in just a few short weeks, and it’s the perfect opportunity to immerse yourself in Celtic culture and music for St. Patrick’s Day. Let’s dive in!
Taking place north of the Vancouver Art Gallery at šxʷƛ̓ənəq Xwtl’e7énḵ Square, the all-day festival will feature live music, flowing beer, food trucks, Irish dancing, games, roaming Irish Wolfhounds, and a Celtic-themed market.
As well, there will be a family-friendly zone and face-painting area for younger participants to enjoy.
Want to get a head start on the festivities? There will be an Irish comedy show hosted by local comedian Amy Walsh on Thursday, March 14th, so you don’t have to wait for the weekend to get in the St. Paddy’s mood.
In addition to the comedy show and flagship downtown festival, ticketed events at this year’s CelticFest include a performance from the Vancouver Welsh Men’s Choir, and the annual St. Patrick’s Day Ceilidh.
Headlining the festival is Chasing Abbey, a rising Irish pop group from Tullamore, along with local artist Paul Caldwell.
The free Saturday festival will feature a range of performers, including the following:
“For over 20 years, CelticFest Vancouver has earned its place as one of the City’s most popular celebrations,” says Alan Cosgrave, Vice President of the CelticFest Vancouver Board. “Fusing Celtic traditional sounds with modern music, art and celebration, the festival brings people together from around the province.”
