Celebs are in northern Ontario to film a new Amazon Prime series all about cottage country

TIFF is still a few weeks away, but the stars are already coming to our neck of the woods. Amazon Canada announced this morning that the platform’s first Canadian scripted series original series is coming to Prime Video in 2022, and filming begins this month. The series, called The Lake, is described as a 30-minute episodic comedy that takes place in cottage country.

Stars of the show include familiar faces you’ve likely seen before in shows like Orphan Black, The Mindy Project, and Black-ish — Jordan Gavari, Madison Shamoun, and Julia Stiles. Additional cast members include Carolyn Scott, Jon Dore, Natalie Lisinka, Travis Nelson and Declan Whaley.

The cast will be on set in northern Ontario until September. The setting will be a big part of the show, according to Amazon, because it “centres on the quintessential Canadian cottage experience.”

“The series taps into the family bonding, relaxing in nature and the peacefulness of cottage country then turns it on its head, with petty rivalry, strained relationships, day drinking, and mosquito-ravaged sunburns,” the company said in a press release.

The show is about a guy named Justin who comes back home after going through a bad breakup while living abroad. He hopes to bond with his biological daughter, who he gave up for adoption in his teens and prefers the big city over quiet country life.

“We’re excited and really looking forward to working with this incredibly talented and diverse cast, and proud to have Jordan in this central role that celebrates the LGBTQIA+ community in this series,” said the series’ executive producers.

The show will be streamed worldwide, and it’ll be exciting to see our beautiful province take centre stage.
