Edmonton’s Candy Cane Lane will be car-free for three days & here’s when

In Alberta’s capital city, few events are as beloved as Candy Cane Lane – a spirited display that Edmonton brings to life every year.

For over 50 years, the lane has given city-slickers a reason to brave the chilly streets and 2022 will be no expectation. This year, the event is back this weekend with bulbs, fun themes and even sleigh rides this winter.

The general event kicks off on December 9th, and will be on on select dates until December 23rd.

Additionally, YEG Candy Cane Lane will be hosting three “Open Street Nights.” Taking place on December 10, 17, and 23, Candy Cane Lane will be closed to vehicles from 5 PM until 11 PM.

“We encourage everyone to take a little longer to enjoy the lights while walking, sledding, skiing, biking, or getting down the lane however you wish (in a non-motorized fashion),” state event organizers on their website.

For those new to the area or that have never been, this annual affair lights up the community of Crestmont, where deeply committed residents decorate their houses from top to bottom.

From inflatable elves and candy canes to stars bears and reindeer, this event is one of the city’s favourites – not only because it’s truly beautiful, but because it also encourages people to give back as well!

“YEG Candy Cane Lane serves as an example of dedication, fortitude, and imagination,” they explain on their website.
