Canada’s first Psychedelic-Enhanced Psychotherapy Centre for Mental Health is now open

We’re all for the good old days, but one thing is for certain: Some things get better with time. One of those things? The resources and treatments available for mental health.

Unsurprisingly, the past year has had a massive impact on the overall mental health of the country. Nearly 40% of Canadians say that during COVID-19, their mental health has declined. To add to that shocking stat is the fact that 30% of people with major depression don’t respond to their current medications.

So with that in mind, and Canadian Mental Health week happening from May 3rd ‘til May 9th, there’s no better time to highlight psychedelic therapy and the groundbreaking (first ever in Canada!) Field Trip Health centre located right here in Toronto.

The Field Trip centre uses psychedelic-enhanced psychotherapy to enhance the lives of people both mentally and emotionally. So, what does that mean? Well, it’s pretty cool!

Using ketamine (a legal dissociative psychedelic) and pairing it with talk therapy, Field Trip is able to provide life-changing mental health treatments for people suffering from PTSD and depression. In addition to providing a safe relief from depression symptoms, the clinic provides a calm and safe environment.

While traditional antidepressants can take weeks or months to begin to work, psychedelic-enhanced psychotherapy has shown to have a positive effect within 24 hours. Pretty incredible, eh?

Although Field Trip’s groundbreaking approach is the first clinic of its kind in Canada, and only open in Toronto as of yet- they’re changing the way we approach mental health treatments throughout the country, and are at the forefront of the psychedelic renaissance in Canada.

Looking to check ‘em out? Psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy is available to all Canadians as a paid service, though patients must be screened first to determine eligibility.
