The city just announced their plans for Canada Day 2022 & here’s what’s happening in Calgary

Summer is hot on our heels and with it, July 1st festivities! As just announced by the city, the big Canada Day Celebration in Calgary will take place this year, and here’s what you can expect in 2022!

“We are so excited to get together again on Canada Day,” says Jennifer Thompson, Manager of Arts & Culture for The City of Calgary. “We’ve missed this important community celebration for the last two years.”

“We can’t wait to see crowds of Calgarians gathering together downtown and celebrating Indigenous culture, live music, food trucks, face painting, spectacular fireworks, and more.”

Unlike years past, events and activities will actually take place at three separate locations making 2022 the biggest in recent memory.

Come the big day, families will be able to check out Fort Calgary between 11 am and 5 pm for a cultural showcase that will focus on beauty, education, and reconciliation – as well as an artisan market, food trucks, Metis jigging, open prayer, dancing, and resting of the flags.

Later, Calgarians can hit TD for an all-Canadian lineup of musical performances (including Sloan) between 3 and 11 pm – then, are encouraged to head over to the municipal building for the city’s big fireworks show.

Alternatively, you’ll also be able to check out Arts commons or St. Patrick’s island for stilt walkers, more art, music, theatre, and food between 11 am and 5 pm.

As always, fireworks will be set to a soundtrack that will play in its entirety on CJSW 90.9 FM – and will be live-streamed on the city website here.

In addition, the show will include a blessing from Stoney Nakoda Elder Cindy Daniels and a message from Mayor Jyoti Gondek – so make sure you tune in right at 9 pm!

Whatever you chose to do, have fun, friends, and stay safe! It’s going to be an explosive year!
