Canada ranks among list of world’s most powerful passports

Here’s another reason to be a proud Canadian! The Henley Passport Index has released its ranking of the world’s most powerful passports, and Canada is in the top 10.

For over 20 years, the index has been the only one of its kind, based exclusively on data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

It’s updated monthly and considered the standard for “global citizens and sovereign states when assessing where a passport ranks on the global mobility spectrum,” according to the Henley Passport Index site.

It includes 199 different passports and 227 different travel destinations. And with that, it shows how dramatically passport power can differ based on nationality.

So, where does Canada land on the list? When it comes to global mobility, Canada remains a strong presence.

Our passport remains in the global top 10, giving access to 183 destinations without a visa.

Most powerful passports in the world

It’s important to note that although Canada is in the top 10, several countries have tied on the list.

Here’s the official ranking:

  1. Singapore
  2. South Korea
  3. Japan
  4. Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Spain, Switzerland
  5. Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Ireland, Netherlands
  6. Greece, Hungary, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Sweden
  7. Australia, Czechia, Malta, Poland
  8. Croatia, Estonia, Slovakia, Slovenia, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom
