This Calgary amusement park is transforming into a Halloween town this September

Halloweekends is returning to Calgary’s Calaway Park this fall, which means you can start celebrating the holiday before the month even arrives.

The park closes for the season before Oct. 31, so it packs all the spooky-season fun into select weekends throughout September, right up to Thanksgiving weekend.

For the occasion, the south side of the park will be full of Halloween fun, with Hallotown, the Boo Crew, family-friendly activities, costumes and prizes taking over the space.

Here’s what you’ll find when Halloweekends takes over the park.

What to expect at Halloweekends

Is Halloweekends scary?

Not at all! If you’re picturing a haunted house situation with actors jumping out at you, that’s not what this is. Halloweekends is designed to be a completely family-friendly experience, not a scary one.

What can I do while I’m there?

One of the main things to check out is Hallotown, where you can wander through Halloween-themed scenes on the south side of the Park. There will also be photo opportunities and magical meet-and-greets at the Enchanted Forest Experience (weather permitting). Beyond that, you can spend your time hopping on the park’s rides and checking out the decorations throughout the day.

A major highlight of Halloweekends is the parade, which takes place at 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 13 and 27, as well as Oct. 10 and 11. The parade will travel along the park’s inner pathway, with spooky characters and floats making their way through the route. And if you’re dressed up in a costume that you want to show off, you can even join in on the parade.

For the best views of the parade, head to the area near Dodgem, one of the bumper car rides, or the Celebration Square Stage.

Can you dress up at Halloweekends?

Calaway Park encourages guests to come dressed up in family-friendly costumes, and yes, parents can dress up too!

There are a few rules to keep in mind, though. Costumes cannot be offensive, vulgar or inappropriate for younger guests.  Costume weapons are allowed as long as they’re clearly fake and not realistic, while full-face masks are only permitted for guests 10 and under.

You may also be asked to remove loose costume pieces like capes or satchels before going on certain rides.

What is the Boo Crew Costume Party?

If you want to lean into the Halloween theme, check out the Costume Party on Sept. 12 and 13, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The party will include a Spooktacular Red Carpet, Scary-o-kee Karaoke, a Boo Crew Monster Games Zone, and activities and prizes throughout the day.

When are the Halloweekends happening?

Halloweekend kicks off on Saturday, Sept. 5 and runs until Monday, Oct. 12, which is Thanksgiving Day. The event takes place only on weekends, and the park will be closed to the public on weekdays.

How much time should I plan to spend at the Park?

There’s no set amount of time you need to spend at the park, but plan for at least a few hours if you want to tackle all the activities during your visit.

If you’re planning to ride the attractions too, keep in mind that wait times can vary, and some rides may have longer lines. Lines tend to move fairly quickly, but it’s still worth budgeting extra time for waiting.

What happens if the weather is bad?

Since Halloweekend takes place outdoors, the weather can affect some of the festivities. The parade and Enchanted Forest are weather permitting, while certain rides may close during rain, strong winds or lightning. In the event of severe weather, Calaway Park may also close early.

How much are tickets?

One of the best things about Halloweekends is that you don’t need a separate ticket to join the Halloween festivities. Everything is included in Calaway Park admission.

Regular admission for guests ages 3 to 49 is $55.95 plus GST, while tickets for guests 50 and older cost $45.95 plus GST. Children 2 and under can visit for free, and if you’re planning a shorter visit, an after-2 p.m. admission option is also available for $39.95 plus GST.

And if you already have a valid 2026 Calaway Park Season Pass, you’re more than welcome to use it during Halloweekends. Season passes include unlimited visits throughout the season and remain valid until Monday, Oct. 12, 2026.
