Check out Calgary’s coolest new public art pieces

The Beltline’s looking extra spiffy these days and we’re pretty sure Project Bike Racks is to blame (thank). They just installed a sunshine-yellow art piece on 11th ave and 5th St SW, and it’s just as functional as it is fun to look at.

Our city has been pretty touchy about art, ever since the fated day in 2013 when the Blue Ring was installed. But don’t worry Calgs. Not only does this art accommodate more bikes than old racks did, but it also spells out the name of the community in a cool way. AKA it’s not just a circle with antennae.

But that’s not all. We’ve also got a cool new piece outside of McHugh House, spelling out YYC in American Sign Language. It’s cute, it’s red, and it prevents bike theft. Win win win!

With two more Beltline installations planned in the coming months, Project Bike Racks is dead set on making the neighbourhood’s aesthetic pop. Expect to see the next one in front of Hostel on 17th Ave!

Next time you hit up Beatroute or CJSW, make sure to check it out. And maybe snap a pic– ya might just earn yourself a cameo on the @curiocitycalgary page…
