Petition to keep U.S.-Canada Border closed has over 100k signatures
Statistics don’t lie, folks. It’s really no secret that Canada has handled the COVID-19 pandemic a tad better than our neighbours to the south. Of course, we still have a long way to go, but we’re proud of our progress so far. Now, with July 21st – the date that was previously chosen to allow non-essential travel between the U.S. and Canada– fast approaching, some fear that our efforts could have all been for nothing. In fact, hundreds of thousands of people have signed a petition calling for the government to keep the border closed.
“America has not implemented the proper steps necessary to control the Covid-19 pandemic within its borders. This has been made very evident by the most recent spikes throughout many American states and the government’s blatant ignorance toward the virus,” the (very blunt) description reads. “Our shared border with America should remain closed until America has implemented a reasonable plan to control the pandemic,” it continues.
The Change.org page, created by user Mark Kossek has actually been active for nearly 2-weeks, but only gained some real traction in the last 24 hours. To give you guys an idea, just this morning, the petition only 8k signatures and now it’s pushing 105k. Wowza.
If you would like to take a look at or sign the petition to keep the border closed yourself, you can do so here. This might be an interesting one to keep an eye on. If we had to guess, we’d say that this is only going to get more popular in the coming weeks. Buckle up, Canada!
