E-scooters set to return to Calgary with some hefty new fines
Start taping up those ankles, people, e-scooters are coming back to Calgary this month! The super-popular Bird scooters and Lime scooters will be back on Calgary’s streets thrilling (or terrorizing, depending on who you ask) Calgarians for another summer.
This time around, however, the scooters will come with some bylaws that we previously didn’t have. Dang, we were looking forward to another season of sliced shins and scooter fails! Here is what the city is cracking down on in 2020.
- $400 fine for operating a shared e-scooter in a reckless manner
- $400 fine for colliding with another user of the sidewalk or street
- $75 fine for carrying a passenger on a shared e-scooter
So, those are all pretty reasonable if you ask us. After all, nobody is having fun if everyone is scootin’ around dangerously. Another new addition will be the ‘Share & Go’ parking zones set up for Calgary e-scooters. These will be recommended parking spots, but people can still use the extra-wide sidewalks to park a scooter when they’re done with their ride.
Now, safe scootin’, Calgary!
