Guide: The best classic Calgary date ideas
Keeping the spark alive in a long-term relationship is a challenge that all of us face at different times (as long as we’re not forever alone). You’ve finally got a night or day off and it’s time to take advantage of it by injecting a direct shot of romance to your relationship’s heart. Here are some of our recommendations for some of the best dates for committed couples.
Slow Things Down at Pigeonhole
Call the babysitter. Pick out your outfit. Make a reservation. Do whatever you’ve got to do to get you and your significant other down to Pigeonhole sooner rather than later, because we know you won’t regret it. Take a slow stroll down 17th Ave before or after Pigeonhole and by the end of the night, all of those first-date sparks will be making their way back.

Get Loud at Aussie Rules Piano Bar
What better way to blow some steam off with your significant other than by having a couple drinks, munching on some good food, and singing your heart out to classic tunes from the sixties. Dueling pianos kick off this interactive music experience and continue going head to head as requests from the crowd come pouring in. It’s definitely a welcome escape from the monotony of day-to-day life.

Get Artsy at Theatre Calgary
A night out is always a little extra special when you dress-up, which is one of the reasons seeing a play can be such a great date. Sure, there’s a chance one (or both) of you isn’t a huge fan of live theatre, and maybe dressing up isn’t typically your thing. But hear us out: sometimes stepping out of your comfort zone is exactly the way to inject some new spirit and adventure into a relationship.

Adventure at The Calgary Zoo
Listen up, you’re never too old for a day or night at the zoo, and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Whether you’ve got kids to bring along, kids to leave with the babysitter, or no kids (so a lot of extra time and money), you’re in for a great time. Oh, and in case you’ve been in outer space or far, far underground for the past month and haven’t heard the news, the zoo now has pandas.

Relax at Leela Eco Spa
One thing we can all agree on is that being in a relationship is hard work. Managing your career, yourself, kids, pets, etc. gets overwhelming at times, and we didn’t even include keeping your significant other happy. Our suggestion is that the two of you take some time for yourselves and hit up one of Leela Eco Spa’s two Calgary locations for a couples massage. It’s an escape from the bustling outside world, and you two literally don’t even have to speak to each other during this ‘date’. You can each just mentally float away for a while, comfortable in knowing that your partner is just as content as you are.

Play Around at The Rec Room
Give in to your inner-child without giving up one of the best parts of being an adult (booze), at this huge playground for grownups. Virtual reality, ping pong, video games, climbing walls, shuffleboard, pool, virtual car racing…do we really have to go on? If you and your partner are looking for a night out of old-school fun with some new school toys, then The Rec Room is exactly the place for you.
- Where: 901 64 Ave NE.
This might seem like an obvious choice, but you’d be surprised how many different things these three date options offer up. Walk, bike, or skateboard (careful now, you’re not 15 anymore) the Bow River and you can grab some ice-cream at Eau Claire market, snap some photos at the Peace Bridge, and check out some Shakespeare in Prince’s Island Park for a full day of old-school romance.

If you find yourself with a little more time than usual for the date, combine any of the above and your partner will be more smitten with you than ever. Good luck out there, lovebirds.
