Troll Falls in a fantastic beginner’s hike. It’s just hard enough that you feel accomplished, the view is beautiful, but it won’t leave you impaired and sore for days afterwards. As we’re sure you have already figured out, ya know’ because of the name, there is a waterfall on this bad boy. Unfortunately, there are no trolls though. You can’t always win.

Shoulder of Yamnuska

beautiful hikes near calgary yamnuska summit

Yamnuska is one of our favourite hikes near Calgary. There are three routes up the iconic mountain, but this one is the most “late spring” early summer-friendly of all of them. This trail is a bit busy because the view from the top is totally worth it, so you’ll have to be extremely careful and also pretty early. With a mask and the right gear though, you’ll have the time of your life.

Heart Creek

Heart Creek is a great grab-the-dog-and-go type hike. It’s an easier hike with incredible views and it’s pretty quick. You definitely won’t need to worry about how sore you’ll be the next day unless you confuse this hike with Heart Mountian which happens pretty often. We’d recommend triple checking the GPS jussst in case.

Distance: 4.7 KM
Difficulty: Easy

Chester Lake

chester lake hike near calgary

Looking for a hike and a tasty meal? You’re in luck! They definitely don’t have food on this hike, but you can totally bring your own. In fact, we suggest doing so. The view from the waterfront spot at the end of the hike is the perfect destination for friends, SO’s and your lungs. The air is fresh, the hike is moderately difficult, so feel free to pack a special carb-loaded treat.
