Guide: 6 Ways to Save Big This Stampede
Stampede is coming in fast and whether you’re a first-timer or seasoned pro, we can all use a few helpful hacks to making this year the best ever. We’ve teamed up with our friends at Brightside to bring you 6 Stampede-Saving Tips so that you can enjoy the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth while saving some time, dollars and stress.
Brightside is building a mobile banking app to help you save for all the things you love – Stampede included! Launching later this year, Brightside will offer a fully digital experience to sign up, open accounts, and start using easy and fun savings features – all designed to work in connection with your current bank. Their goal is to let you YOLO responsibly and we’re totally on board with that.
1. Break in the Boots
Cowboy boot pain is REAL. Do the legwork early by breaking in your boots before the fun begins and you’ll be able to boot scoot your way painlessly through all 10 days of Stampede. Try blow drying a pair of socks and put them inside your boots for a little extra stretch. In a pinch? We’ve heard deodorant, baby powder or Vaseline applied to your heels can help prevent those pesky blisters. And don’t forget to bring along some moleskin as a backup.
2. Use Stampede Bucks
Planning to hit up the Stampede grounds? If you or someone you know has a Costco Membership, make sure you pick up a pack or two of Stampede Bucks. For $39.99, you’ll get $50 worth of bucks that can be used on ANYTHING at the grounds. Food, rides, shows – spend em’ how you want (you’ll find us at the mini-donut stand)!
3. Hit Up Happy Hours
Stampede tents and beer gardens can be a little pricey for the basic bevvie. Get a drink worth your dollars by hitting up happy hour at one of Calgary’s many restaurants. Most continue their daily happy hour deals during Stampede so make a fun (and worthwhile) pit stop on your way to your next Stampede hotspot. Margaritas anyone?
4. Wardrobe Must-Haves
You don’t have to spend $$ for your Stampede style! It’s all in the details. Throw on a bandana, cowboy hat, or anything fringe to instantly Stampede-ify your everyday wardrobe. You can’t go wrong with denim, plaid, or florals to channel your inner cowboy or cowgirl. Yahoo!
5. Don’t Drive
Parking around Stampede Park is not only hard to find but expensive, so save some time and money by leaving your car at home. As an added bonus, you can enjoy the beer gardens without worry!
- CTrain – The easiest way to get downtown and to the grounds is via CTrain. During the 10 day festival, train lines will be operating non-stop and discounted day passes are available.
- Rideshare – Emphasis on the share! Split your trip with your pals rather than riding solo. And avoid peak times (pre/post shows) to skirt surge pricing or traffic jams that drive up the meter.
6. End with a Bang
Fireworks are the perfect way to end your daily Stampede adventures. Need some guidance on where to take in the views? Scottsman’s Hill is a classic but be prepared to fight the crowds. Instead, try one of these spots: Tom Campbell Hill, Dover Ridge, Hillcrest Avenue in Mount Royal or on the Stampede grounds (bonus points if you time your ride on the WestJet SkyRide).
For a sweet finale, take in the show from the loop beside Village Ice Cream in Victoria Park, cone in hand.
We hope these tips make your Stampede a little brighter! Make sure you follow all the fun on IG @HiBrightsider and sign up for their waitlist at HiBrightside.ca for your chance to win prizes all summer long with Random Acts of Brightside: Summer Edition!
