Service industry workers, we stand with you, and so do your co-workers! Kenny Kaechele, chef and owner of popular restaurant Workshop Kitchen + Culture, had a special message for those feeling the pressure amid the COVID outbreak, reminding customers and employees that they’re still appreciated and deeply missed.

“I just wanted to reach out and have some contact with my staff, and with my customers, my vendors and just the greater restaurant community in general,” he said in the Instagram video.

Workshop Kitchen + Culture, like many other lounges, bars, and restos in Calgary have had to shut their doors in order to comply with recommendations made by the government and health officials.

“It’s the most counterintuitive thing to close your restaurant when revenues and having customers in your restaurant are what keeps you going. Not only that, but having years of experiences, its a way of life, it’s a more than a livelihood.”

He ends the video reminding his staff and his customers that he loves them, and encourages a conversation within the industry.

“Feel free to talk to me about your struggles, what’s working and what’s not, and your plans. Y’know we can talk, we all have a little more time on our hands.”

This is exactly the kind of energy we need! Share your stories with one another, a little listening, venting and a sense of community can go a long way! We’ve got this, Calgary!
