Despite it not making ANY sense, people freaking live for restaurants that let you cook your own food. We think that it defeats the purpose of going out to eat in the first place, but here goes! The Patricia Hotel and Water Hole near Dinosaur Provincial Park is a hidden Alberta Gem with an authentic wild-west charm.

Built back in 1915, this saloon has really seen it all, and still to this day, gets quite a bit of attention from locals and tourists alike. Though it’s anything but a flashy, ‘Instagram’ spot, it’s welcoming and has a small-town feel, with a ‘dinner with the grandparents’ vibe.

They do things their way, and as one reviewer put it best “you go for what it is, not what it isn’t.’

As we said, you can order your own beef or bison and cook it yourself on what they call the ‘eternal flame’ or you can order off the regular menu (which is what we can only describe as very ‘meat and potatoes’) where they’ll do the work for you. Just don’t expect to find anything that you can’t imagine would be eaten in a John Wayne-type movie.
