The NHL is almost back! Although we won’t be able to tune into any games in-person, that doesn’t mean we can’t binge-watch the NHL playoffs at spots around Calgary. Sure, capacity is limited and you’ll have to be extra careful with social-distancing, but it’s still gonna be a ton of fun. Here are some of the best spots to watch the NHL playoffs in Calgary. Red sweater not optional.

CRAFT Beer Market on 10th Ave unveiled its rooftop patio this summer, and its safe to say it’s been a hit. Not only can you catch some rays on the gorgeous setup, but you can also catch pretty much all the games you could want. Not digging the outdoor vibes? Well, this spot has a massive indoor space, so you’re fine either way.
Where: 345 10 Ave SW
Hanging out in the heart of the Red Mile is pretty sweet. Plus, National on 17th introduced a fresh look and new menu in the past 6 months, so you might be pleasantly surprised at some of the changes. It’s not a sports bar, sure, but the long tables and fantastic location make it a no-brainer.
Where: 550 17 Ave SW
We can’t bring up the Red Mile without Ship being included. It’s not the most big-group-friendly spot with social distancing measures in place, but it’s damn-near impossible to find a better all-around bar in the city. For that and that alone it deserves a spot on the list.
Let’s head away from the Red Mile, shall we? Limerick’s down on MacLeod Trail recently just popped up a garden patio that is looking fricken’ amazing. We’re keeping our fingers crossed that some TVs make their way onto the patio, but even still, it’s a very solid pub with a very solid hockey-watching atmosphere.
Where: 7304 Macleod Trail
Can’t go wrong with one of the biggest Stephen Avenue spots, can you? Along with solid beers and food, this downtown spot is very big and has more than enough televisions for you to grab an awesome spot.
Where: 310 8 Ave SW
Remember Midtown in Kensington? Well, it’s now called Scuba Jays, and this fresh new look & feel is working wonders. All drinks are $6, the menu is super simple, and it’s a nice option away from the Red Mile that is certainly still going to be bumping.
Where: 302 10 St NW
If you’re down in the south and not wanting to come to downtown for a game, head to Mug Shotz. It’s a sports bar in the traditional sense, with some of Calgary’s best wings to boot. Don’t forget your jersey, folks, this place has some hardcore fans.
Where: 2808 Ogden Rd SE
Wondering where that loud music is coming from? It’s probably The Unicorn. With 3 floors, 3 bars, and 1 heck of a crowd, this place is perfect to get your rowdy on. Typically, the upstairs spot is designated for Playoff Puck Parties, so head on up to see if that’s still the go-to location.
Where: 223 8 Ave SW
Joyce brought the TV onto the patio last year, so we’d assume they will have the same sort of set up this year. This place is always a dynamite spot for Flames games, which means seats are likely to fill up. Sure, it’s not on the Mile, but it’s definitely got the same atmosphere.
Where: 506 24 Ave SW
This downtown staple just recently added some TVs to the patio to take the playoff vibes to a whole other level. It still has what might be the biggest beer selection in all of Calgary, so if you’re starting early (like the NHL playoffs schedule is set up), then you can work yourself through a bunch of drink options. Enjoy!
Where: 140, 10th Avenue SW
Back to 17th Ave we go! This one should come as no surprise. With 2 levels, TVs absolutely everywhere, and a bunch of drink & food specials on every day of the week, this is a no-brainer for playoff hockey. We haven’t seen yet whether or not their expanded patio will include TVs, but we’re keeping our fingers crossed.
Where: 728 17 Ave SW
Surprise, surprise, another 17th Ave inclusion! Honestly, can you blame us? Mill Street is usually an awesome spot to grab drinks & a bite before heading to the ‘Dome, but since there aren’t any home Flames games that ain’t an option. Instead, just spend the whole day here! Or, bounce along 17th Ave (like we’re going to do).
Where: 219 17 Ave SW
Both of these locations might be well away from downtown, but there is no denying that Shark Club is set up perfectly for watching the game. Massive TVs, plenty of food & drink options, and more than enough room to stand up and cheer (or pace angrily), this is an awesome spot if heading DT or to the Mile isn’t high on your list of priorities.
Where: 2493 27 Ave NE & 7995 11 St SE
So there you have it Calgary, 14 spots that you just have to check out during the playoffs. Enjoy yourselves!
