5 of the Weirdest things happening in Calgary this week

Happy Tuesday, cyber friends! We are really only able to define what fun means to us. See, we usually just dig a good movie and a trendy cocktail bar, but some of you are into brewing polyjuice potions and tying knots with a PBR in hand and we respect that. Luckily we live in a city where we’ve embraced and celebrate our differences, and in YYC there’s a little something for everyone! Here are the 5 weirdest things we found happening in Calgary this week.

Have trouble drinking a beer and tying a fly at the same time? Well, fear not, because there’s actually a class for exactly that. Wow, the power of multitasking.

WHAT TIME IS IT? Time to grab a drink, because MRU and the U of C are going head to head in a High School Musical improv face off. What does that mean exactly? Well, we’re not entirely sure, but we’re sure it will be an 18+ evening of strange early 2000’s references, basketballs, and spontaneous musical numbers.

When: Thursday, March 12th
Where: Wyckham House, 4825 Mount Royal Gate SW, Calgary
Time: 7 pm – 8:30 pm

We’ve asked our local grocer to order in some eye of newt and unicorn bone marrow, but according to them it’s “unethical” and they won’t budge. How else are we supposed to get Kyle to fall for us if not by means of a love spell?! Check out the Ides of March Market for all of your witchy needs this weekend.

When: Saturday, March 14th
Where: 1320 5 Avenue NW, Calgary
Time: 10 am – 4 pm

Buy and sell your local art… but then also heal internal wounds with a bowl, meet psychics and discuss conspiracy theories with like-minded individuals. Was the moon landing a hoax? Is Obama a lizard? Let’s discuss this over coffee and tea.

When: Saturday, March 14th
Where: Message organizers privately for address
Time: 1 pm – 8 pm
Cost: Free

If you’re going to jump into a lake that has been frozen for months, for whatever reason, at least learn to do it safely! This event listing literally says you should be crazy to attend but will teach you everything you need to know to ice water dive like a pro. There will even be a BBQ and hot chocolate for anyone that survives. Yeah, okay, like we need another reason to fear for our respiratory systems right now.

When: Saturday, March 14th – Sunday, March 15th
Time: 5 pm
Where: 4652 MacLeod Trail SW, Calgary
Cost: $299
