Somehow it feels like it’s been 84 years since our last Calgary Stampede but only a few days since we reported that 2020 was cancelled. We’re honestly not sure how we got here, but the buzz for July’s annual event has already started up again and organizers are hopeful, even stating that the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth will go on.

Though many have chosen to cancel or postpone their summer festivals and markets, the folks behind the Calgary Stampede basically said that this year, they’re not budging.

Rumour has it that the city has been tirelessly reimagining the event for a mid-pandemic Calgary, making sure to leave lots of wiggle room just in case circumstances change ahead of go time.

This means, that while we will see a city-wide hoedown, it’s more than likely going to look a bit different than years prior.

“The Stampede is challenging in that it doesn’t fit in one certain category. We have food services, restaurants, retail, rides, music — all of those different aspects, so we’re having to look at it in a unique way and working very closely with the government and AHS because of that,” communications manager Kristina Barnes recently told Global News.

Honestly, we’ve been ready to boot scoot ‘n boogie again since August of 2019, so no matter what they give us, we think we’ll be happy. We don’t need extravagance we just need that Calgary Stampede feeling and we trust that no matter what they do, we’re going to get that.

This will be an exciting one to watch unfold, folks, so keep checking back in. We’ll be sharing information as it rolls in, so stay on your toes, stay safe and cross your fingers for more good news!
