Theatre Calgary’s Shakespeare by the Bow gets an exciting virtual twist this year

Via Curiocity Group Inc.

As we all know, the summer of 2020 is shaping up to be a whole lot different than we had initially planned. But, we’re loving seeing how people are adapting and the city coming together to make sure that it’s a summer we will never forget- for all the right reasons. This time of the year, we’d normally be getting ready to pack our picnic baskets and head to Prince’s Island Park for the annual Shakespeare by the Bow performances by Theatre Calgary. Unfortunately, due to AHS restrictions, the annual park performances won’t be returning this year. However, as they say in showbiz, “the show must go on!”. That’s why Theatre Calgary has come up with an innovative new way to bring this summer tradition to your screens.

Starting this weekend, Theatre Calgary will be bringing you their own 2020 adaptation of Romeo & Juliet twice a week for a few weeks on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The best part about all of this is that you can enjoy the show from the comfort of your own home! This year, Theatre Calgary has reimagined the performance as a 50-minute long show being streamed live, with a ton of surprises along the way.

So, let’s get down to (show)biz and fill you in on what you can expect. Without giving too much away, Theatre Calgary has said that “It is love at first sight for Romeo and Juliet, two teens from rival families. As their courtship blossoms, one of the greatest love stories of all time unfolds. Watch Shakespeare’s classic story of star-crossed lovers from the comfort of your home, as Alberta’s emerging artists take on this universally accessible love story, and stay true to the heart of the play, while acknowledging the times we find ourselves in.”

Oh, and did we mention that the shows are free, making this the most affordable stay-at-home date night ever. One key factor to mention though is that supporting Theatre Calgary’s emerging artists will help fantastic shows like this one keep being made for years to come. After all, it’s more important now than ever to support the local community, so if you can afford to do so, please make a donation! One of the ways you can do this is by texting TRUELOVE to 20222 to donate $5 to help keep their emerging artist programs live.

For more information and to get the link to watch the show, make sure you head over to Theatre Calgary’s website, and stay up to date by following their IG feed!

Well, folks, all that’s left to do is tune in on Saturday for the year’s first showing. We’ll catch ya online!
