April is an exciting month, full of really fun occasions, events, and celebrations. Now, while most would say that Easter or the beginning of spring is their favourite thing about this particular 30, we’d have to say Canadian Film Day makes our top spot. On April 21st, pop some popcorn, get couch cozy, and celebrate northern excellence by watching these canuck-made movies.
I am the Pretty Thing that Lives in the House
Ghosts, nurses, dark hallways, jump scares, and old-timey costumes. This film has nearly every cliche haunted-house horror-ism and honestly, we’re not mad at it. The reality is that ‘scary’ movies are almost always fun to watch whether they’re of Wes Craven/Jordan Peele quality or not. It also certainly doesn’t hurt that this film is Canadian. 10’s across the board!

The F Word
We’ll be honest, we only watched this film because it stars Daniel Radcliffe and Adam Driver and we thought that was super cool. However, we were pleasantly surprised. Radcliffe plays a man who struggles to find love until he meets Chantry… who has a boyfriend. This movie is a classic rom-com and is worth the watch if you’re in need of something cute.

In a world where 4% of the population is born with superhuman abilities crime rates are up and the odds of making an honest living plummet. Starring a ton of people that will have you yelling ‘oh, I’ve seen that guy,’ Code 8 answers the question, what if criminals had powers?

The Death and Life of John F. Donovan
Though this one was pretty polarizing with critics it’s still well worth watching for the insane cast. From Natalie Portman and Susan Sarandon to Kathy Bates, Kit Harrington, and Thandiwe Newton the A-List presence is undeniably impressive. The film follows Harrington who plays an actor through a controversial ‘pen-palship’ with a much younger fan. No, it’s not the best movie in the world, but as we said… seeing a Canadian film, with a cast like this was worth it.
