There’s nothing like a brand-spankin’ new year to motivate us to learn something new or start a project we’ve been meaning to get to for who knows how long. January is especially great for these things since the weather is overall still a little chilly, the days are short, and we find ourselves feeling the need for something to do aside from bingeing another series on Netflix.

Learn a new language
Don’t be too intimidated by this one, because learning a new language in this modern age is actually pretty simple thanks to the many courses and apps available to use on the good ol’ internet. Whether you want to start with something more popular like French or Spanish or are going to try your hand at Greek or Mandarin, you can choose from hundreds of languages on apps like Duolingo or Babbel. ¡Vámonos!
Refurbish old furniture
Whether you pick up a vintage piece at your local thrift store or have an old dresser that needs some love, refinishing furniture is oddly satisfying and can render some beautiful results. Plus, it can be as time-consuming (or not) as you want it to be, and you can always take breaks in between coats of paint!
Give your house a mini makeover
Speaking of paint, why stop at furniture? A great way to freshen up your home and brighten up a room is with a coat or two of paint.
