The winter season is well on its way and we don’t know about you, but we’re already feeling the itch of the impending cabin fever. The colder months can already feel like a bit of a prison, but after all that’s happened in 2020, we don’t think we can stay cooped up at home too much longer. That’s exactly why this Rocky Mountain adventure offered by Contiki is at the top of our to-do list!

Contiki  Holidays are famous for their international trips around the globe’s most desired destinations, but did you know that they have a full list of Canadian trips that are equally as impressive? One of those trips, Ski Banff, is discounted right now and will make your winter mountain dreams come true. That’s why we’ve teamed up with Contiki to give you our picks for 10 adventures you need to include in your winter bucket list year.

CONTIKI SKI BANFF TRIP

1-skiing rocky mountain adventures

One of the most beautiful locations in the world is also home to some of the best skiing in Canada. Contiki is offering a 4-night, 5-day adventure filled with some of winter’s coolest activities. You’ll visit the stunning Yamnuska Wolfdog Sanctuary, explore the town of Banff, and, of course, tear up the slopes!

You’ll also have a chance to take advantage of optional full-day ski lessons, add-ons like dog sledding, taking a dip in the hot springs, or even a helicopter tour of the surrounding Rocky Mountains. Honestly, there is something for every winter adventurer on this trip.

To top it all off, accommodations for the Ski Banff trip from Contiki are at the elegant Tunnel Mountain Resort. This one is hard to beat.

DOG SLEDDING

dog sledding

Imagine getting pulled through the mountains by a team of gorgeous sled dogs. We’ve been dreaming of it since Eight Below. If you’re in the same boat (or sled, haha), you can try dog sledding in Banff National Park for a seriously once in a lifetime day. Think we can cuddle all 8 dogs at once?

JOHNSTON CANYON EVENING ICE WALK

Strap on a headlamp, join your small tour group, and trek through Johnston Canyon after the sun goes down. As you pass over suspended catwalks, you’ll be mesmerized by the light from your headlamp reflecting off the shimmering waterfalls frozen in time. To make this evening more magical, you’ll be treated to some hot chocolate and maple cookies as you take in the dusky scenery.

SKATE ON A FROZEN LAKE

rocky mountain adventures

Mountain lakes don’t make for great swimming holes in the summer, but boy do they ever make for some great ice rinks in the winter. Lake Minnewanka and Two Jack Lake are great options for a rustic style skate on a frozen lake, but if you’re looking for something more boujee, we’ve got to give the edge to Lake Louise. With their professionally maintained rink with access to rentals, an ice bar, plenty of fire pits, and an actual castle, it might be as close to a Canadian winter paradise you can find.

360° MOUNTAIN VIEWS WITH BANFF GONDOLA

rocky mountain adventures

If you’re looking to heighten your senses and enjoy mountain top adventures, go no further than the Banff Gondola. You’ll be zipped up to the summit of Sulfur Mountain, where you can take in breathtaking views of a frozen Banff and the Bow Valley. If you don’t feel like braving the cold to walk along the Boardwalk, don’t fret. You can enjoy fine dining and a cocktail or two at Sky Bistro while still taking advantage of those same mountain views.

HELICOPTER RIDES

rocky mountain adventures

Take in the awe-inspiring views from above the mountains with a helicopter tour. Sight-see the stunning bird’s eye views of Banff National Park and the gorgeous Rocky Mountains, and snap a couple of pics along the way. This is one mountain adventure that will truly leave you breathless!

TUBING AT MT. NORQUAY

Tobogganing was a blast as a kid, but as an adult, there’s a major catch. What is it? Walking back up the hill. Over. And. Over. Again. In mid-December, you’ll be able to spend the day tubing at Alberta’s largest tube park. With 8 lanes to glide, speed, and spin down, you’ll have enough thrills to last you all winter long.

YAMNUSKA WOLFDOG SANCTUARY

yamnuska wolfdog sanctuary

If you’re wanting to get your Game of Thrones vibes on, then you’ve just got to see these majestic creatures in the snow this winter. Visit this wolfdog safe haven and learn all about the rescue organization, rehabilitation and rehoming of displaced wolfdogs. An interactive afternoon getting up close and personal with packs of wolfdogs? Not such a shabby way to spend a winter’s day! Oh, and did we mention that a trip to Yamnuska is included on Day 1 of your Contiki Ski Banff trip?!

R&R AT THE NORDIC SPA

We’ve got two words to describe the Nordic Spa: alpine sanctuary. Sounds pretty good, eh? They’re all about “facing the elements” here, but this experience couldn’t be further from roughing it. From the massage services to the Eucalyptus steam cabin to the state-of-the-art saunas, this place has the whole relaxation game down pat.

SLEIGH RIDE THROUGH THE MOUNTAINS

Finishing off the list with one of the most idyllic experiences around. With Banff sleigh rides, you’ll get pulled through snowy mountain meadows, breathe in the crisp winter air, and take in the breathtaking views of Banff’s most famous mountain peaks. Ride with a group of your friends, or book a 2-person sleigh ride for a more romantic time.

There you have it, pals! Sure, it might not be a normal year for travel, but adventure is out there and it’s waiting for you! All you have to do is let Contiki show you the way.
